Health Foundation to purchase Wheelchair Accessible Bus for Long-Term Care Residents at the Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre
Grand Falls-Windsor, February 4, 2020 – The South and Central Health Foundation is pleased to announce that it will partner with service organizations and individuals throughout the Coast of Bays to provide a new Wheelchair Accessible Bus for the long-term care residents of the Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre in Harbour Breton.
A new vehicle, which is urgently needed, will cost $90,000 and it is hoped that the fundraising efforts will be successful before the end of 2020. The fundraising campaign “Bring the Bus Home!” is being launched with a generous donation of $10,000 from the Harbour Breton Hospital Auxiliary.
“Wheelchair Accessible Buses are extremely important to providing a high quality of life for seniors and disabled individuals residing at our long-term care facilities. They enable interaction and contact within our communities and provide important access to medical services,” explains Leon King, President of the South and Central Health Foundation. “Our Foundation’s commitment to provide a wheelchair accessible bus for the well-being of patients and residents of the Coast of Bays region is further evidence of our charity’s support of people throughout South and Central Newfoundland.”
Residents and staff at Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre will benefit greatly from this initiative. Robert Allen, Manager of Site Operations at Connaigre Peninsula Health Centre states: “Our Long Term Care Unit is home to residents from all over the Coast of Bays region and to take a day trip back to their home town brings them so much joy. I hope that people living throughout the south coast will see this as a cause worthy of their support.”
