Mother’s Day Radiothon to Benefit
Regional Mental Health Inpatient Unit at CNRHC
Dear Friends of Healthcare;
Imagine, no visible symptoms, no runny nose, no feaver or rash, no fractures or sprains. A mental health problem can feel just as bad, or worse, as any other physical illness – only you cannot see it.
In the coming months our Foundation’s Board of Directors and staff will be continuing our commitment to improving the lives of those living with mental illness. With your help we want to do just that here at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre.
Did you know that 94,000 people of Central Newfoundland are served by one inpatient Mental Health Unit, located at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor? Since 2011 our charity has been partnering with donors to inject much-needed funds into the inpatient Mental Health Unit to revitalize the patient rooms and leisure areas for the health and well-being of mental health patients.
This donor project marked the first time in twenty-five years that there had been any significant investment in this often overlooked area of patient care. I am delighted to say that with this generosity our charity has already revitalized the dining area, exercise room, lounge and most of the 12 (8 double, 4 single) patient rooms. Our charity also purchased tools and supplies for some of their life skills programs such as sewing, painting and cooking sessions.
The revitalization of the patient rooms began in 2014 and includes: a new bed tailored specifically to a mental health environment, new furnishing, along with a complete bathroom update and various safety and comfort items which will help to provide as home-like an environment as possible.
We’re almost there! We have three double patient rooms remaining. Our financial goal to complete this project is $125,000 and we need your help. The patients need your help!
I am asking for your generosity once again for our Radiothon to support this project. Our Foundation believes that this project is a valuable investment in helping to improve the outcomes of patient treatment. We hope you will too. We encourage you to gather your friends, family or coworkers to create your own fundraiser in support of patients served at your Health Centre. (Foundation staff would be happy to help with lottery licenses and promotions).
Please join with me to make your personal donation. If you are a regular donor you may find it easier to set up a small monthly gift to the Health Foundation, or you can choose to make a one-time gift, simply by going to www.schf.nl.ca. You can always make your donation in advance by completing and mailing the enclosed form, you can drop by to chat with staff and volunteers at the Exploits Valley Mall on Friday, May 10th from 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or phone 489-8300 on the day of the broadcast to make your pledge.
Thank you so much for supporting the South and Central Health Foundation in the past. I hope that you will continue to find ways to support this charity and our local healthcare system in the future.
